Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson is the daughter of British lawyers Jacqueline Luesby (born in Paris) and Chris Watson (born in Paris). As a young girl, she moved from London to Oxfordshire where she attended The Dragon School. Emma's goal was to be an actor. When she was 6she was enrolled into the Oxford Stagecoach Theatre Arts branch, where she took classes on singing, acting, and dance. At the age of 10, she had already taken part in a variety of Stagecoach plays and productions. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone, the 2001 film version to J.K. Rowling's bestselling book was filmed in 1999. Emma was found by casting agents through Emma's Oxford theatre instructor. David Heyman, the producer of Harry Potter Harry Potter's Sorcerer's Stone and Ron Weasley told Emma after eight auditions that she had been chosen for these characters. Emma was chosen to play alongside Daniel Radcliffe Rupert Grint and Rupert Grint. The release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) was Emma's first cinematic screen appearance. The film broke records for opening-day sales and opening-weekend takings as well as being the most-grossing feature in 2001. The film was praised by critics and its performances by the three leading actors of the young generation. The Daily Telegraph, a well-read British newspaper, was awed by her for her outstanding performance. Emma received five nominations for her exceptional performance. Then, she was awarded the Young Artist Award in Leading Young Actresses of a Film.
